About this organisation
The South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind is a long-standing non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering visually impaired individuals through independence, mobility and inclusion.
With over 70 years of impact, the organisation runs several key programmes including Assistance Dog Development and Training, the College of Orientation and Mobility, and community-based support initiatives. These programmes are designed to equip individuals with the skills and tools needed to navigate the world with confidence.
Each year, the organisation successfully delivers approximately 50 trained assistance dogs and provides orientation and mobility training to around 350 visually impaired individuals. In addition, they actively engage communities through workshops, webinars and information sessions.
Their Assistance Dog Access Program plays a vital role in educating businesses and the public on the legal rights of individuals with assistance dogs, helping to create a more inclusive and accessible society.
